Whether it's a new restaurant or cooking at home, food means more than sustenance.


Many people don't like to bake because they think you have to measure too precisely. While this may be true as you start learning, but when you've been at it for some time, you get a feel for it. You'll know if it's 3 Tbs of ice water or 6 for your pie crust depending on the humidity in the air. Or if a recipe that asks for buttermilk might be better with some whole milk soured with acid. And which acid? Vinegar? Lemon juice? Give baking a try. And learn to experiment. 

I've included my first (and last) wedding cake. It was a fun project. There's no envy for professionals from me, though.
